What Is Wheel Balancing and Why Does It Matter?
Wheel balancing is the process of equalising the weight distribution of a tyre and wheel assembly so that it rotates smoothly without vibration. Even a small imbalance — as little as a few grams — can cause noticeable vibration at higher speeds, premature and uneven tyre wear, increased stress on suspension and steering components, and reduced driver comfort.
Wheels can become unbalanced over time due to small impacts, uneven tyre wear, loss of a balance weight, or simply from the natural variation in rubber distribution within a tyre. New tyres should always be balanced when fitted — and this is standard practice when you have tyres fitted by Tech Mobile Tyres.
Signs That Your Wheels Need Balancing
The most common symptom of unbalanced wheels is a vibration felt through the steering wheel, seat or floor of the vehicle, typically at speeds above 50-60 mph. The vibration may worsen at specific speeds and then improve again — this is characteristic of wheel imbalance.
Unbalanced wheels can also cause scalloped or cupped wear patterns on tyres — a series of flat spots or dips around the circumference of the tread. If you notice any of these symptoms, have your wheels balanced as soon as possible to prevent further tyre wear and suspension damage.
